Based on the previously introduced characteristics of Oxford fabric, you can distinguish genuine material from imitations using the following methods:
Observe the surface texture
Genuine Oxford fabric features a clear, uniform texture with a regular granular pattern and a soft, natural sheen. Imitations are often standard polyester fabrics with blurred textures, excessively large gaps, and a dull or uneven luster.
Test physical properties
Genuine Oxford fabric snaps back quickly when stretched and resists tearing; imitations deform easily upon stretching and have significantly lower tear strength. When rubbed with a hard object, genuine Oxford fabric proves abrasion-resistant and does not pill, whereas inferior fabrics tend to fuzz or snag.
Verify functional characteristics
In a water-drop test, water beads roll off the surface of genuine Oxford fabric without rapidly soaking in; imitations have poor water resistance, causing water droplets to be absorbed directly by the fabric.
Flame test
Ignite a small sample: genuine Oxford fabric (typically polyester or nylon) burns with a blue flame, emits an odor of burning plastic, and leaves behind hard, solidified granules. The burning characteristics of imitations differ noticeably from those of standard synthetic fabrics.
