Key Characteristics Of Oxford Fabric

Jun 06, 2026 Leave a message

Oxford fabric (also known as Oxford weave) is a classic woven textile originating in the UK. Its core characteristics are as follows:

Raw Materials and Weave
Made from materials such as cotton, polyester, or nylon, it utilizes a variation of the plain weave (such as basket weave or weft-rib weave). Some twill versions feature a distinct, three-dimensional texture; the yarns are tightly interlaced, creating a surface with a uniform, granular appearance.

Core Performance
Highly abrasion- and tear-resistant, capable of withstanding significant tension and friction, with durability far exceeding that of standard cotton fabrics;
Excellent water resistance when treated with PU or PVC coatings, allowing rainwater to bead up and roll off the surface;
Lighter than traditional canvas, easy to wash and quick to dry; resistant to stain penetration and convenient for daily maintenance.

Application Features
Post-processing treatments can impart properties such as flame retardancy and UV resistance; widely used in luggage and bags, outdoor gear, work shirts, industrial tarpaulins, and more.
It does have minor limitations, such as a relatively stiff hand-feel, reduced breathability in coated versions, and a tendency to age when exposed to prolonged sunlight.
